Historic Beauty

Recently, I've been spending a lot of time in downtown LA.  What's happening there is truly amazing.   New shops, great restaurants, events and sporting complexes, but what I love most of all is the preservation and conservation of the beautiful traditional architecture that already exists.  It adds such a unique quality to the area that really is special.

For instance the Orpheum Theatre.

From the moment you enter the lobby you're greeted by marble columns, balustrades and trompe l'oeil murals.

An Affaire is Brewing Beyond the Garden of Eden

There’s a lot happening in the next week art wise in LA, so I’m preparing myself for a whole lot of composition overload and great inspiration.

Bold, Beautiful...Art

I never would have thought that I’d be speaking the same words as my parents, but they were right…time goes by SO fast!

A lot has happened over the past six months and during that time I’ve come across some really amazing artists that have taken my breath away.

On a recent trip to Henessey and Ingalls, a fantastic art and architecture bookstore located on Whilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica, I happened upon a stunning book from artist Glenn Brown.  Sumptuous oil paints and luscious colours jumping off the page.  I wish that I could see the work first hand. Not knowing much about him, I did a little bit of research and learned that every piece he develops is based on the work of another artist.  Nothing original and yet his stylistic representation and artistic voice allows each piece to be just that.

An Unlikely Pairing

I had a conversation with a friend of mine a couple of months back and he suggested that I paint wine bottle stoppers. Hum...that's an interesting prospect, i thought. I guess they could be made out of the same material that I have been working with to create all of the other items that I have in my line. Okay. So, I did some research. I never thought that during the process, I would find another person out in the world, who is going through the same thing that I am, with bolstering a business from all perspectives, who has a similar informed yet approachable demeanor as the one that I attempt to have. It's been great.

2D & 3D: Tales of an Arranged Marriage

There are challenges to be faced in each and every relationship and circumstance, but who knew that something so simple as decorating a ball would cause such strife. Each design starts with a sheet of paper...the sketching occurs. Once the preliminary design is laid out it gets scaled to size and a trace of the design is produced. Easy peasy.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Getting up in the morning and being accompanied by a cup of tea, a bar of chocolate, fresh fruit, handy tools and tins of paint...oh yeah, and I forgot to mention...itty bitty dustings of gold-leaf.

Jungle Fever

Welcome 2010! After some much needed relaxation and celebration, we're back drawing, creating, painting and building our collection of wonderful accessories...or objets, as a friend of mine says;) The newest members of the group...our new line of safari animal napkin rings.
